We have created a long-term transformation strategy to assist with community growth and development that makes a sustainable impact. The strategy is centred on two development pillars of transformation in South Africa.

Skills Development (SD).

Every year three or more local graduates with building qualifications are selected as beneficiaries of six or more month’s on-site, mentored training.

Staff have access to training courses that include Tendering, Project Management, General Admin (Business Skills) and Basic Accounting for the nonaccountant.

Enterprise and Supplier Development (ESD).

Where possible, all of our general building materials are sourced from local, qualified, VAT registered merchants and QSEs.

Where subcontractors are commissioned, we support local businesses only.

Environmental Safety.

At Lemay, the environment is at the forefront of our hearts and minds. So much so that we have implemented an Environmental Policy and a Contractors Considerate Policy.

This helps our business emphasise the importance of green practices to our staff and sub-contractors. We want to ensure that all our business is complementary to our greater community and the Earth.

Health and safety.

Our mandate of excellence, so we don’t compromise and we don’t cut corners. That holds to every aspect of our business—health and safety in particular.

• We adhere to the most stringent OHSA requirements while ensuring the comfort and dignity of our employees.
• We only work with service providers and subcontractors who uphold the same stringent standard against which we benchmark ourselves.
• We have appointed independent Safety Officers on site who practice professional, impartial evaluation and monitoring.
• Our HIV Policy encourages all employees to undertake regular testing provisioned by the company.
